Earn More Challenge September?

Earning Extra IncomeSaving Savy Pinkey’s DH suggested having a Earn More Challenge September. This idea really appeals to me because I have been racking my brain for ways to make some extra money. I listed & sold some books on Half.com (I was going to list some other great books I have, but they are fetching much less than I want to list for. So, I will just keep my collection.), I am planning to clean out more clutter and list on Ebay or sell at work (we have our own eboard advertisement – it’s quite nice), and we have cashed in the coin jar (for our trip to Universal Studios this Saturday). That leaves me with, “how am I going to generate more income?”

Per The Wisdom Journal

The old phrase “spend less than you earn” is made up of TWO factors: spending and earning. Sure you can reduce your spending by a great deal, but very few people have saved their way to wealth. They have also earned additional income and then put that money to work for them.

There are many ways to make extra money, but how you make extra money is dependent on your current sources of income. Since your day job usually pays the bills, how can you make extra money? Here’s some ideas to help kick start your brain into thinking about how to increase the earning side of the equation. These aren’t considered “passive” income (filling out opinion surveys for cash & rewards does take time), but they can help generate some take-home pay to help reduce your debt and potentially get you some breathing room.

I would like to make an extra one to two hundred dollars a month. Actually, my goal is to make $500 during my 5 month challenge. Here is where I would like your help. Which ways would you consider generating extra income?

Need some great ideas to jump start your thoughts? Check out the links below!

And ladies/gents, what do you think about having a Earn More Challenge in September? We could kindly compete for the top dollar earned (up for a little challenge?). :)
(Perhaps I can throw in a frugal and fun prize into the mix – Starbuck’s gift card, Amazon gift card, a grab bag type prize. Ideas? )

There is selling candy bars in the work lunch room (check for policies)
Selling baked goods
Listing on Ebay & Craigslist
Holding a Garage Sale
Babysitting/Housesitting/Petsitting

Get those thoughts rollin’!

I’m in!. This is a great idea, and I did read it on Saving Savey Pinkey’s blog. I just drew a blank when trying to figure out how to make more money. I do like your idea about setting a goal each month. . I will need advice on how to list stuff on e-bay, craigslist, etc., but I have more Longaberger baskets than I know what to do with, and I’m thinking I could make some decent money. Also, I would like to have a garage sale (although DH hates that idea!). I’m also sure I could part with some books.

I’m now looking forward to the challenge….

I’ve never even heard of Longaberger baskets, but I love the Long Boardwalk Basket. Tres cute!

I just think it sounds like a fun challenge. Nothing serious. But who doesn’t want extra money to pay the bills or to put away for the holidays?!

ebay, craigslist are all pretty simple. ebay takes a time or two to get used to. It’s the shipping part that I had to get used to.

And a garage sale is a great idea! I am not partial to having one either, but with my DH there… I think it will work out fine. *searching for stuff to sell*. ;)

The power is within us to make it happen! I am kind of curious to see if I have it in me to make some extra money with the ideas in my head.

Spread the word around. Let’s see if we can get some people wrangled up!

LOL. I was hoping your previous comment was a ‘yes’. ;)
Glad to hear. Even if we only bring in an extra $3 from completing a survey…we tried. And it’s still extra money.

I have no incoming income right now. So definitely anything would be a big step. I like setting goals and creating money from just making an effort will definitely be something I approach in September.

No incoming income? So you could use a challenge like September’s Earn More! I think that is what I like about this upcoming challenge…it is alot about taking that first step and getting the ball rolling!

Is that a confirmation that you will join the Earn More Challenge? I would love to link you on our ongoing participant list.

I wish you the best in accomplishing your goals. :)

Great ideas- I’d love to join this challenge!
How about selling items (consigning) for others on Ebay/Craigslist/Half.com for a commission?

admin August 20, 2009 at 2:53 pm

Yeah! Another contender in September’s challenge! I have linked you on the side bar.

I agree, Ebay/Craigslist/Half have great potential. Do you currently sell on these sites? If so, how are they working out for you?

I have to say I was a bit upset last night… I have some great hardbound fiction horror books in wonderful condition, but they are only fetching 0.75 cents in brand new condition. What gull! lol. I will keep my wonderful collection.

This should be like an April challenge huh? It’s like Spring Cleaning. Well, I think it should happen twice a year anyway. I always have stuff to clean out. :)

Interesting thoughts in this article, thanks for that.

I got married about 6 mos ago, and since we consolidated into one house, we had a fair amount of stuff to get rid off. One of the things we did rather than hold a garage sale, is to post individual items on Craigslist. I like this a lot better than EBAY because there are no fees.

Plus, it was easy, just post and then the people would come to your house and get it. We sold a couch, bar stools, and some pictures to name a few. While you won’t get rich, it helps you get a little cash and weed out stuff at your own speed.

Hi Robert,
Congratulations are in order. :)
I like Craigslist more than the others, too. Plus it is quicker to list things in Craigslist than Ebay. And for the buyer its great because you know exactly what you want to buy. Win-win situation if you ask me.

Thank you for your great input on this post!

Might be? No… I am sticking your name up there.
No, excuse. I said that everyone has it within them to make it happen. Sike yourself up! It’s time to be rollin in the dough. :D

I’m definitely in! The best way I make extra money is by babysitting. $15 per hour for watching tv? So easy!

$15?! Dang girl. you make some money by babysitting. Very cool. :)

I’m up for it! I’ve sold 3 eBooks on Clickbank in August, now I’m looking at adding advertising through text-link-ads.com and yourwebsitevalue.com. Also, Google Base launched a few months ago, it lists “Brick and Mortar” businesses on a map as the first result in search results! They don’t even need a website. It takes 5 minutes to submit to, why not offer to do it for local businesses for a small fee.

Woo hoo! We finally have a guy on this challenge. :D

Thanks for the great links. I didn’t hear about Google Base. i will have to check that out. Great ideas. Thanks!

This is going to be fun!

I would love to join too :-) Mine will be mostly survey cashouts and I could probably try to sell a few things too !

I love the idea of keeping track of all the extra $$… great idea!

admin August 29, 2009 at 1:53 pm

Yeah! I really wonder how high we can make as a group total? So glad you joined in the fun. :D

I think I like the idea of making more $ so that I can put to good use instead of restricting my funds so I can put it to more use. Hmmm. I will have to see how this theory of mine will work. LOL.

Woo hoo! Well, this particular Earn More Challenge is just for September. But making a goal of $200 over 5 months is very achievable. You’re one step ahead of most people out there – you’ve made a goal. :D

Hi Anita. That’s a great idea – being a virtual assitant. I don’t much about it, but you might check out this link: Virtual Assitant Jobs. I am going to tweet this and see if anyone else may know.
