That's more the restaurant's fault, but it's still good to be completely familiar with what you're expecting to pay to prevent getting cheated. For lying, he didn't deserve the already generous tip at all. I also think you can get $$ back at ebates, though I don't use that service. I echo the other poster in saying read the fine print. Each restaurant has different restrictions, so make sure you know them before you buy or it's a waste of money even if you are getting a discount.
